In this age of dominant social media, does it matter whether or not your websites are properly optimized for search?…
READ FULL ARTICLE »Despite all the research and reports on the necessity of SEO practices for business, it is surprising to see how many site owners continue to neglect this important aspect of their Internet presence. It is not uncommon for prospective SEO clients to come calling, explaining how after several months and perhaps a year of online existence they are still unable to find their website after several pages in search. The prospect of hiring somebody to take on search engine optimization can be daunting, yes, and you may wonder if you can afford it.
As your online business continues to suffer, however, you may find yourself asking how can you not afford it?
SEO is a Daily Job
In order to achieve top rankings in Google and Yahoo and other major search engines for your select keywords, you must work daily to make sure your website is optimized for the terms under which you want to be found. This involves more than just placing the keywords in your site’s title and description tags. You site’s content must be focused and relevant to the searches you want to conquer, and your site overall should be authoritative enough on the subject or product you offer that similar quality websites will want to reference you via a link. The more outside sources recognize your value, the more search engines will as well.
To achieve this, of course, means to work for it. It may seems like sites similar to yours are able to win high search rankings through little effort – perhaps their sites look clunky and are not attractive – but consider this: a search engine spider cannot see fancy graphics and complicated code that creates flashy interactive displays. When Google crawls your site, it looks for the relevant content. A decorative, elegant site may be attractive to customers and clients, but even the most primitive-looking site with continuous, relevant content stands a chance of claiming top results by virtue of daily activity.
If you do not have the time yourself to devote to daily SEO tactics, it stands to reason you would consider hiring an in-house SEO specialist or an optimization firm to ensure you are seen in search and elsewhere.
Can you afford SEO?
Do you need SEO? Yes. Can you afford SEO? That is for you to answer, but perhaps the better question would be can you afford to invest in a site without SEO and survive?
Shop around the Internet for SEO firms and you may find you can expect to pay anywhere from five hundred to a thousand dollars monthly for various services. How much work an SEO firm will do for your site depends, of course, on their skills and how much they value particular tactics to charge for them. Some search specialists may maintain social networks for your business, while others may concentrate more on link popularity and content building. You may be inclined to pay more to a firm if they do more work for you, that is understandable, so it is important to compare the services of each firm you interview before you decide to hire anybody.
Is it worth the money to pay somebody to perform regular SEO practices on your site? Consider your business first: what is it that you sell? What services do you offer, and how much do you charge? Would you pay to advertise your business elsewhere – TV, radio, or newspaper? When you invent any amount of money to promote your business, you do expect a return on investment. So it is natural to expect the ROI on SEO would come in the form of increased traffic to your site, and strong search rankings. If you are able to determine how many products you need to sell or how many clients need to hire you in order to have a month’s worth of SEO done to your site, you can proceed to hire within your budget.
Know this, however: employing SEO services may not yield immediate results for your business. Think of SEO as an investment in the long-term health of your website. Depending on the amount of work done to boost rankings, tactics performed now could take months to bear fruit on the Internet. Once your higher search results take hold, however, the money spent on SEO can be returned in sales. Consistency and patience are two keys to seeing your SEO plan to success.
